Description: Emerging satellite, aircraft and land-based technologies offer new ways to observe and model dynamic hydrologic, climatic, geomorphic and biological processes in floodplain and wetland environments. Examples include radar-based estimates of water level and surface velocity, incorporation of satellite-derived precipitation fields into distributed watershed models, radar imaging of river and lake ice, mapping of phytoplankton and riparian vegetation, detection of cold pools, and lidar measurements of water surface velocity and floodplain topography. We particularly encourage abstracts that (1) use remote observation to provide new understanding of hydrologic, climatic, geomorphic or biogeochemical processes; (2) develop or refine new satellite, aircraft and land-based methods for remote observation of rivers and wetlands; (3) incorporate remote observations into hydrologic, geomorphic or biogeochemical models; or (4) identify mission requirements or limitations for a hydrology-based satellite mission.
